What are the benefits of DIDs?

A DID is like a digital fingerprint that uniquely identifies an identity in a verifiable, decentralized way.

Identity is built by adding verifiable and revocable credentials to the DID. The owner of the identity can add or delete credentials, decide who the credentials are shared with, and can also choose to make some credentials public by creating a service endpoint such as a URL in a service provider such as GitHub. These credentials would then be visible to the Verifier or any on-line service that can read KILT credentials.

A DID also allows you to digitally sign files using DIDsign via this website.
